New

I will say today, Happy New Year and I will mean it with all sincerity.  I think the reason I look to the New Year with such hope and anticipation may be most simply put, because it involves the word “New.”

I’m thinking that I will introduce a new concept this year….  Happy New Month, Happy New Week and Happy New Day.  Now that I think upon it, every moment is new to me.  Perhaps I will begin Happy New Moment…thus taking the time to realize that what HAS been may not be again.
In this way it might be possible for me to be in that moment; to offer thanks, to lament loss, to christen joy, to breathe deep knowing that another breath comes directly and it is mine as well.

So I wish a Happy New Year to all of us…this moment, this breath…it is yours whether happy or not…it is yours.
 peace today

Let it snow…

til January 2nd, at least….it will SNOW on my blog.  For those of you in the more temperate climates it’s a little virtual winter treat.  Now all you need is the DVD of that crackling fire playing on your tv in the background to complete the effect.  You’re welcome.

Rejoice! Rejoice!

My favorite Christmas Carol is actually not a Christmas Carol per se…but rather a song of hope, sung during Advent.

Written during the 9th Century I love the way the verse reads in Latin:

Veni, veni Emanuel!Captivum solve Israel!

Qui gemit in exilio,

Privatus Dei Filio

Gaude, gaude, Emanuel

Nascetur pro te, Israel.

But for those of us who cannot remember much of our freshman year of Latin with Sister Immaculata (I’m not making this up…I really did take Latin from Sister Immaculata my freshman year in High School):

O come, O come, Emmanuel,

And ransom captive Israel,

That mourns in lonely exile here

Until the Son of God appear.

Rejoice! Rejoice!

Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

I wish you peace and blessings this season of Hope, this season of Light and Joy.

Christmas Carols for the Mentally Ill

I’ve been feeling blue lately…the stress of selling our house and not really knowing where we will live next I think has gotten to me a little this season of Joy and Peace.  My “sense of place” is all out of whack…I’m missing this piece and then missing the Peace that comes from that.   Today, talking to my therapist mom on the phone she told me about a funny thing she saw recently, “Christmas Carols for the Mentally Ill.”  Bear in mind, we are not making fun of mentally ill people….I know and love several mentally ill people…but I’m sorry, this made me laugh and I needed that at this moment so here it is for your enjoyment. I found this by Google on John Fry’s website.I think I’m allowed to say I like the one for ADHD the best…my DH is diagnosed and medicated for this disorder….

Garments of Faith

True Confessions…I have never been able to write a “Worship” song. I have tried to do it for church and such…it’s just not in my songwriting nature I suppose. The closest I have come is this tune. I wrote this for the soundtrack of my DoxaSoma DVD (available here for those interested parties….)

And now for your enjoyment, here ’tis:

Garments of Faith

How can you love me
as I am right now
broken
and torn
waiting for hope

How can you want me
as I fall too far
broken
and empty
waiting for hope
to return

Now will you come to me
Lift up my face
Offer glimmers of grace
Garments of faith
Then will you mend my heart
lift me from pain
Offer glimmers of grace
Garments of faith.

How can you love me
as I stand
before the throne
left with no home
nowhere to turn
waiting for hope

Will you return to me
in your good time
Glimmers of grace
Garments of faith
Then will you
mend my heart
lift me from pain,
Offer glimmers of grace
Garments of faith

Gotta get yer Diptet…

This dedicated to my blog buddy Babychaos….enjoy

Why should I love you?

Something you probably never knew about Mrs Metaphor is that I am a utterly devoted and somewhat rabid Kate Bush fan. I have not located a youtube video to embed for this tune but at the very least you can read the lyrics to one of my favorites:Why Should I Love You?

This chapter says

Put it out of your mind

Mmm, give it time….

The fine purple

The purest gold

The red of the Sacred Heart

The grey of a ghost

The L of the lips are open

To the O of the Host

The V of the velvet

Of all of the people in the world

Why should I love you?

There’s just something ’bout you

There’s just something ’bout you

Of all the people in the world

Why should I love you?

Have you ever seen a picture

Of Jesus laughing?

Mmm, do you think

He had a beautiful smile?

A smile that healed

Of all the people in the world

Why should I love you?

There’s just something ’bout you

There’s just something ’bout you

Of all the people in the world

Why should I love you?

Of all the people in the world

Why should I love you?

The fine purple

The purest gold

The red of the Sacred Heart

The grey of a ghost

The L of the lips are open

To the O of the Host

The V of the velvet

The E of my eye

The eye in wonder

The eye that sees

The I that loves you

Of all the people in the world

Why should I love you?

Finally….the end result

It’s taken a while but I have finally procured a decent picture of my mid life crisis tattoo and I thought I would share that with you.

I think it turned out rather well, myself.

Many thanks to Rodney at Insight Studios in Chicago.

Noble Currency….

Even though NaBloPoMo is over I thought I’d subject you to some more of my poetry.  Don’t complain, there isn’t THAT much in my poetic repetoire so count your blessings, yes?  I wrote this one a few years ago….I still love it.  Sometimes, it helps to read poetry aloud for the full effect.  Better yet, one day I’ll come to an open mic and read it for you.  I can be very entertaining you know.

CONTINUITY

there

another moment

passed

with effort

unannounced

a moment

well spent

noble currency

a moment

with wings

with life

each breath

a pause

in motion

a beating heart

a universe

of it’s own

My brain hurts….

I say this a lot….in the gumby accent and rarely do people really “get” it. This is probably one of my favorite Monty Python sketches…alongside the Pet License sketch. Have a nice day:
